Alternative Fuel Storage Systems

Core designs and builds specialized systems for alternative fuel storage and dispensing. Core has over 20 years experience providing Biodiesel fueling systems, E-85 fueling systems and Methanol above ground fuel storage tanks nationwide. Alternative fueling systems come complete with everything needed for a compliant operation, including fuel storage tanks and alternative fuel compatible dispensing systems—it’s as easy as “plug and pump.”

Suitable for:

  • Ethanol (E10 & E85)
  • Biodiesel (B20, B50 & B100 Biodiesel)
  • Methanol and Methanol blends

Ethanol Storage

E10 & E85

Ethanol is made from corn, sugar cane or other natural biomass and is then blended with gasoline to produce what’s known as a blended fuel such as E85 and E10. Because of the corrosive nature of ethanol there are specific needs and regulations for handling, storing, and dispensing these Ethanol-Gasoline blends. Considerations include:

  • Alternative probes will need to be used
  • Proactive inspection of tanks, pipes, hoses, and other dispensing-related equipment is recommended

Core has designed and installed hundreds of alternative fuel storage systems. See sample projects below.

Biodiesel Fuel Storage

B20, B50 & B100

Biodiesel is made from biological materials most commonly vegetable oil. Biodiesel can be blended and used in many different concentrations. The most common are B5 (up to 5% biodiesel) up to B20 (6% to 20% biodiesel) which are then mixed with diesel. Blended biodiesel has the benefit of being able to run in any kind of diesel engine with no modifications necessary. B100 is pure biodiesel and can run in a diesel engine but only with modifications.

Methanol Storage Systems

Methanol & Methanol Blends

Methanol is a clean burning, high octane blending component for gasoline which is made from various energy sources such as natural gas, coal and biomass. Methanol blends are often used to extending gasoline supplies. Considerations include:

  • Fuel additives should be used to mitigate corrosion
  • Methanol-compatible pumps and accessories may be needed
  • Filters may need to be switched to a type with smaller micron openings
